We are sad to share that long-time club member and friend Barbara Ritchie passed away peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning, January 5, 2021. Barbara was adopted by several Goldens in her long tenure with GRRCC. She is survived by her Bosco who commandeered the recliner near her front door and trained Barbara to carry cheese cubes in her pocketbook to entice him in (and out) of the car. Barbara was a petite, fiercely independent woman with smiling eyes and the best chuckle you’ve ever heard. She never missed a GRRCC event or annual Board meeting. Whether at Belk Charity Days or the Tennis Ball Raffle, she was a tenacious & successful fundraiser. She was particularly bummed that our 2020 St. Patricks’ Day parade was canceled as she had come to love having a reserved seat on the GRRCC float! We will miss Barbara dearly, but it gives us great comfort to know that she lived and left on her very own terms…and probably with cheese in her pocketbook. Thank you, Barbara, for your service to a cause we all love and for your kindness & friendship.
