Last year’s scene after the donations

Happy Holidays everyone! It’s time once again for our annual year end Donate and Decorate fundraiser! Beginning Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, and continuing through Christmas Eve, December 24th.

Your tax deductible donations will decorate our holiday scene.  The donation option that you choose will add lights, ornaments, candy canes, presents and other scene options to decorate the tree and the room to complete the setting around our sleeping golden retriever puppy.

GRRCC has been rescuing Golden Retrievers in the Charlotte area since 1991. While GRRCC doesn’t bring in as many Goldens as we did in the pre-social media years, and some of our dogs are doodles and friendly mixes, GRRCC is very much an active rescue in the Charlotte area. It seems a healthy dog is often re-homed to the general public on Facebook or Craigslist, leaving those with more challenging issues in the hands of rescues.  With your help, GRRCC is up to the task to help any Golden, or Golden mix, and to do what we can to place these beautiful loving dogs into a forever home.

Your donation helps GRRCC provide the medical, and other care, needed by our Goldens while on their journey to be matched with their perfect forever home.

We recognize that there are many deserving groups that need help for their causes. GRRCC is grateful for anything that you can offer to help.  Thank you again.

Here are 4 out of 42 intakes that were brought into our rescue so far this year…

Rudy is a 9 month old puppy that was hit by a car, suffering a broken leg and several broken ribs.  Rudy’s owners took him to the vet for euthanasia but fortunately for Rudy, his vet knew a client who owned a GRRCC dog and contacted him to say that Rudy was not a lost cause.  That long-time volunteer contacted GRRCC and we immediately brought Rudy into the rescue.  After successful surgery to fix a shattered femur he made a full recovery. Rudy’s expenses were $7,131.

Holly is a 1 year old pup that suffered a broken leg in the home with owner’s that were struggling with addiction. Holly’s leg was fixed, but she developed an infection at the surgery site and was not brought to a vet for treatment. Thankfully, good Samaritans in Holly’s neighborhood banned together to rescue Holly and brought her into rescue.  Holly’s leg at that point required amputation and her medical expenses were $5,017.

Gracie (7) and George (6)  were picked up by Animal Control when they were found alone in a hotel room where their owner had died.  Both dogs are now happy and healthy after excellent care in their foster-to-adopt home.  Gracie’s medical expenses with thyroid issues were $2,385; George’s medical expenses with melanoma was $1,194.

Sadly not all rescues end in success. Charlie was a beautiful 5 year old girl who’s owner’s left multiple health issues untreated for several months.  With worsening symptoms the owner’s eventually surrendered Charlie to rescue.  Charlie was in terrible pain and could barely walk, but GRRCC was committed to doing all we could for Charlie.  A foster home was ready for Charlie and two dedicated volunteers took her to two specialty vets.  Extensive testing was done at a cost of $2,043.  The vets found an infected bladder, lymphoma, enlarged heart, internal bleeding, cancer in her liver and spleen and were unable to save Charlie.
