On February 17th, GRRCC had the opportunity to attend the Dog Days of Winter Festival at the US National Whitewater Center. This dog-filled event happens twice a year, along with its sister event The Dog Days of Summer. The event kicked off with a 5K Trail Race or Dog Jog for those growing paws. In addition to our rescue, over 30 other vendors attended. During this all-day event, we connected with our local Humane Societies and Animal Control who brought some adoptable friends. Citizen Canine, where many of our GRRCC dogs can go on to graduate from, provided an entire obstacle course to showcase their training!
Some of the event highlights included FREE genetic testing that included health data as well, not just the breed. Some of our favorite retailers, Pet Wants in Charlotte and Pet in the City in Matthews gave out treats for pets. Subaru, of course, was represented and geared the dogs up with bandanas and travel water bowls. And a standout vendor was VetSitting, an in-home pet sitting service by veterinarian professionals, perfect for our seniors or post surgery recoveries! Their puppachinos were a hit too!
The grand finale was the Dog on Ice show. USNWC allowed pups inside their ice rink to frolic and play and what a joy this was to watch!
Though we didn’t have any goldens there that were available for adoption we did highlight the three available dogs that we currently have on our website.
A very huge “Thank You” to our bundled up volunteers and some that brought their dogs, Isabel Drinkwater and Chatki, Ashley Finney and RiverDale, Grace, Vesna Ikanovic and Olive and Rose, Deborah Foster and Dixie and Sarah Dowless.
