Peanut

Meet Peanut!

Peanut is a 1-year-old, 59-pound, neutered male Golden Retriever born on July 25, 2023. He is a sweet, playful, and curious pup looking for his forever home.

Activity Level:

Peanut is a bundle of energy, especially in the mornings! He loves to play, zoom around the backyard, and have fun with other dogs. He enjoys a good game of fetch, although he may not always bring the toy back. Whether he’s playing with a ball on his own or chewing on a stick, Peanut is happiest when he’s outside exploring.

Challenges:

Peanut can be a bit nervous around loud noises like thunderstorms, fireworks, or trucks. He’s also working on breaking the habit of pawing and licking, especially in moments of excitement.

Housebreaking:

Peanut is making great progress with house training but still needs a bit of supervision. He doesn’t always signal when he needs to go outside, but with close attention, accidents have become rare. He’ll let you know when he’s antsy or head to the backdoor when it’s time for a bathroom break.

Obedience Commands:

Peanut knows his name and will come when called in the backyard. He’s working on “sit” but is still getting used to commands due to his initial skittishness. With patience and time, Peanut has already made strides and is becoming more comfortable in his foster home.

Compatibility with Other Dogs:

Peanut gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He plays well with his foster sister, a 10-year-old Golden Retriever, and has also been friendly with other dogs, including a Poodle. He would likely thrive in a home with another dog companion.

Compatibility with Cats:

Peanut is also great with cats! He shares space peacefully with his foster’s cat, Delbert, and shows no interest in chasing him. In fact, they even sit together.

Behavior Around Children:

Peanut hasn’t been around children in his foster home, but due to his nervousness around loud noises and fast movements, a quieter household without young children may be best for him.

Leash Manners:

Peanut is still learning to walk on a leash. He finds loud noises scary, and walking in the neighborhood has been overwhelming for him. With patience and time, Peanut will improve as he learns that the leash means fun outdoor adventures.

Car Rides:

Though Peanut needs help getting in and out of the car, he is calm and well-behaved during rides. He doesn’t get car sick, and though trips have been short, he’s handled them well.

Crate Training:

Peanut has acclimated well to his crate. After the first week in his foster home, he began willingly going into his crate at night. He is comfortable being crated for short periods during the day, especially if his foster mom is away.

Favorite Activities:

Peanut loves spending time with his foster family, playing with toys, and snuggling on the couch. He’s a fan of dog beds and enjoys fetching toys from the toy chest one by one, filling the room with toys like a little daycare center!

The Ideal Home:

Peanut came from a difficult background, and as a result, he’s still learning how to trust and relax. He would thrive in a calm, patient home with or without another dog. He loves attention and would do well with someone who can offer him lots of affection and understanding.

Peanut is ready to bring his playful energy and big heart into a loving forever home!
