KIMSEY HUDSON
1995-2008
My husband and I are
writing to you with a heavy heart. We are sad to say we lost our southern
old lady, Kimsey.
We first spotted Kimsey on the GRRCC website. Being on the Board at the
time, I was always out there surfing around. The only problem, she was out
there far too many days. I had to go meet her but was so hesitant with a new
baby and two younger Goldens already in our home. I fell in love with her at
first sight though. She was just the sweetest thing and I knew she would fit
in just fine.
I work part time at the
Harris YMCA and was bragging (which I tend to do all the time) about my
Golden Girls. I came to find out that a wonderful lady I was working with
there knew Kimsey. and had been her neighbor for years. We learned that
Kimsey had been given to a young boy for his birthday. Although she was much
loved by the boy, the rest of the family neglected her. They decided to
breed her and although not many of the puppies survived, the lady I worked
with had one of her babies. She loved Kimsey and brought her into her house
many cold or hot days and at night. She had been devastated when her
neighbors told her that they had gotten rid of her, since she would have
loved to have taken her in. It gave her such comfort knowing she was with us
and always got updates. What I didn’t reveal was the fact that her owners
had taken her to a high kill shelter that was would put her down if the
Animal Control staff had not thought to call GRRCC. Thanks to our wonderful
GRRCC volunteers she was saved and was given another 4 years of life.
We miss her so much. It
feels like just yesterday my 8 month old daughter was snuggled up to her
reading books. I also see her so clearly getting ‘down & dirty’ wrestling
with her Golden sisters, Ramsey and Dixie, (who were half her age) and
keeping up with them just fine, might I add!. I will never forget the
head-bobbing feeding ritual we had with her or her stubbornness about going
outside on rainy days. She will always live in our hearts and we were so
lucky to have Kimsey as a part of our family.
We want to give a special thanks and recognition to GRRCC for rescuing an
older golden and Long Animal Hospital, who had taken such wonderful care of
her throughout the 4 years, with even extra love at the end.
If you’re looking to adopt, please don’t overlook a senior golden. They
can be as wonderful if not more wonderful than any other. Plus, they just
might just need you a little bit more!
We miss her so much!
